If my memory serves me correctly (It's been about awhile since I tried suse 10.2) but YasT found raw1394 and dv1394 quite nicely and I didn't have to jump through udev hoops. Currently to capture hdv I'm using the patch which I believe is now incorporated into dvgrab 3.0 (cvs only) but the patch is here
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1703694&group_id=14103&atid=314103 to use the patch get the latest svn or nightly build of dvgrab from http://www.kinodv.org/ copy the patch into the top directory then patch -i <name-of-patch> build as normal. ( I think it's been merged into dvgrab 3.0 cvs) To use: I get the following results with Sony hdr-hc3 localhost hdv02 # /usr/local/bin/dvgrab --format mpeg2 --hdv --showstatus To load in cinelerra if you get bad playback use ALSA sound drivers and stops playback locks tab checked in playback preferances. And here's what got me. HDV is 1440x1080 anamorphic. You have to set that up in FORMAT settings with 4:3 aspect ratio to get correct speed and aspect 16:9 Daniel
