Some things on Linux have been sorted out to be easy. I'm sorry that video editing isn't one of them yet.

Making it easy-peasy maybe outside Cinelerra's scope. Other projects,
like Open Movie Editor, may fill that gap eventually.

Writing permissions to external disks is not out cup of tea at all.
The distros have to sort that out in a way that makes sense. It is
not trivial, but I am confident that progress will be made.

I've been annoyed by Cinelerra's hard-coded paths to the media files.
Media files stored on external disks can be hard to find if they get
a different mount point. This is something the distros _and_ the
applications have to address in a more clever way.
Many users don't understand file systems well, and are totally
disoriented by the huge file trees of modern operating systems.
The ancient Macintosh way of presenting "files" and "folders" does
not scale. When you have thousands of files, the old desktop
metaphor is woefully inadequate!

However, developers are not those who feel the most uncomfortable,
or have the hardest time working around the bloated file systems.
It's not _their_ itch ...

I don't think we can ever present the power of Cinelerra in a way
that makes in _easy_ to a neophyte. But it can make more sense,
and be more reliable than it currently is.
