just a tiny comment:

Editing by dragging handles is called "Trimming". When trimming, the gap
(called silence) is considered as a clip, a blank clip. The behaviour is
thus just as with any other edit.
To cancel the silence you can edit in Drag-and-drop mode (arrow icon).
In this mode silence is seen as "void" and you can move the whole edit
and reduce the gap by drag-and-dropping.
