some personal opinions...

A list of things which I would make me happy:

 * More people contributing to the project.

 * Help coding already planned and important things

 * Send patches (git mob?) which fix existing issues.

 * Contribute to the Documentation.

 * Doing code or documentation review and constructive critics
   showing up better alternatives.

 * Caring for infrastructure, figure out what are the tasks to
be done (Website maintenance, coding and documentation tasks,
   classify bug reports, PR, ...).

 * Working out plans how things will actually be done (concrete!).

 * Last but not least, if someone could invest some money for bounties,
this would really raise the motivation and priority of cinelerra
   coding.

Things which don't turn me on and are a time sink:

 * Pointing out things which are bad without a clue how to make them
   better.

 * Adding more requests to the pile of things which have to be done.

 * Endless talks without productive outcome.

 * Working on things which are not really important or don't improve
   anything.

After all I am willing to help and invest considerable time for anyone
who has problems with something, like git or automake or whatever. The
point is that this time should be paid back by the one who learned by
that will actually contribute to the project. If only just writing a doc
on "How to build a theme" or improve/maintain some other Howto's (uhm I
really want our website to be a wiki).

You don't have to be a coder to help the project. Just look out what can
be done by you, every simple thing done will help. Don't say the reason
that you don't want to steal the developers time is why you don't do
anything, thats a lie, try to learn things and when you are really stuck
don't hesitate to ask, for the developers (at least for me) it is more
motivating when I don't feel alone and see that others are also working
on figuring things out (guess how developers work? they don't magically
know anything and then just wave their magic wand!).

Your contribution doesn't need to be big or fast. Just some steady and
reliable contributions even small ones are greatly welcome.

        Christian
