Hi there, I'm having some issues rendering my project to a final video
file. it just seems impossible to render it in the proper ratio.

My captured.dv file is in "raw dv" format, frame size is 1024x756
pixels. I can open this file with cinelerra and work with it, not
problem at all - I see the result in real time nice and perfect.

The frame size is 720x576, which is stretched to 1024x576 on the screen.

Exporting to other formats (MP2, Quicktime4Linux, etc.) does render the
video at 1024x756 but with black bars at the left and right the screen.

Changing the projects settings to 720x576 (that is 4:3 I think) allows
me to export to raw dv, but the video is reduced horizontally to 720
pixels.

That's because you have not scaled the output to 1024x576.
It is still 720x576. It is only _displayed_ as 1024x576,
because of the 16:9 setting.

these are my "settings -> set format" values:

Frame rate: 25.0000
Width : 1024
Height : 576
W/H Ratio: 1/1
Color model: RGB 8 bit
Aspect Ratio 16:9

DV only allows 720 pixel wide images. So set the resolution to
720x576. And use YUV as colour model instead of RGB, for better
performance and quality.

Can somebody explain what to do please? I just tried with many
combinations and ways and I'm still unable to render.

The aspect ratio setting in Cinelerra is a _display setting_.
It's not a render setting. I don't think it affects the rendered
output at all, only how the video is displayed on the screen.

16:9 DV is an anamorphic format; the pixels are not square.
It has exactly the same number of pixels as 4:3 DV. The 720 pixels
have to be stretched to produce a 16:9 image.
The only thing Cinelerra has to do (I don't know if it does...)
is to stick the correct "aspect ratio" data in the rendered raw DV,
so that a player will know how to stretch the image correctly.

By the way; 4:3 DV does not have square pixels either. AND the
full 720x576 frame is not exactly 4:3 either! Don't you believe
me? Well, the BBC said it:
