After further reseach I learned that ffmpeg is a better choice than
mpeg2enc and is part of the cinelerra package.

Also I found that

is an excellent step-by-step guide consistant with the render windows in
the current cinelerra package.  I also needed the help in
crazedmuleproductions/search/label/growisofs to burn the dvd.

Now that it is finished I am delighted.  The cinelerra assembly and
editing of the captured clips is terrific and together with the Crazy
Mule hand holding the production is easy.
