Thanks for the thorough response Florian. It looks like the incorrect file size is the only real issue then, if I'm not mistaken. I know that the camera will not playback videos it did not record, so it may well be that there is extra info that can only be read by the camera, which kinda sucks apparently.
I tried your suggestion of converting to raw YUV and it seems to do alright. I hate to convert a file more than I absolutely have to, but it does indeed look like I have to(if I want to use Cin) and a simple command line entry seems to make it quick and easy. Now to try it on some 1080i.
