hi all,

a few questions and thoughts re cin3, (partially already answered):

first off: as far as i can see in terms of f(l)oss we have only playback, 3d and compression pretty well covered at the moment. with cin3 the ambition is to also cover nles. but that still leaves pro level grading and compositing not available to my knowledge. would cin3 architecture be a good base for developing such solutions? either inside cin3 or as standalone using the same backend/rendering engine? could imagine such solutions might need different kind of emphasis, although hope not.

since the ambition is to build a professional app, will the architecture allow for following features down the line:

1. selectable precision in processing, including floating point for both in RGB and YUV (or Y'CrCb)?
as far as i understood from cehteh this should not be a problem

2. processing of wavelet based codecs such as redcoderaw and dirac in desired specific partial or full decodes? switchable at will? this will arise when necessary to work for example with 1K or 2K proxies for 4K material. ideal is that one can work with partial decode and just make a switch for full render or export.

3. can the render engine facilitate non destructive workflows for formats similar to raw (photo) type formats? other related processing such as demosaicing? again, the way redcoderaw works, (i have a feeling we are going to see more of these down the line.)

4. eventual support for professional and other output devices such as bmg design etc for calibrated monitoring or output purposes? this is crucial for any proper workflow: - cehteh said that no plans currently for these, but the plug in architecture will allow such to be implemented later.

5. multiple format timelines working seamlessly? playback without rendering (while editing).

6. some sort of user friendly and high quality intermediate codec solution for tricky acquisition codecs?

7. flexbility regarding framerates, pulldowns and cadences to another and back? solutions for working on projects that have mixed sources? (this is mostly an issue for ntsc country people but not exclusively).

8. distributed processing?
        - (just double checking, isnt this a working feature already?)

9. precise and user friendly time remap, optical flow manipulation possibilities in all directions on specific portions of an open timeline without messing the rest. could also be necessary for filters that do format conversions.

10. multiclip editing?

i realise that most and hopefully all of these are solvable/ implementable and/or (non?)issues for later but wanted to raise them now to be sure as i many of them to be critical future features.

apologies if these have been extensively covered already or are just plain premature...

cheers,
/sami
