You could try to start Cinelerra with
LIBXCB_ALLOW_SLOPPY_LOCK=true Cinelerra

It does still seem to behave oddly from time to time, that is: 
some widgets still freeze (at least for me). But you could at 
least try.
I have a separate partition with Gutsy for everything Cinelerra, 
although I keep coming back to Hardy to see if things have 
improved (with new updates for kernel/XCB etc.). But others have 
their Windows gaming partition, so I don't really care for the 
added complexity as long as it works. Which it does.
