 Slightly less than TV resolution editing, I guess.  DVD players are 
everywhere, so DVD is a more convenient target.

 Most "simple users" can't be bothered with editing.  They want to 
trim their funniest or best video clips a little, and put them on a 
DVD or on Youtube.  Ugly jump cuts and messy sound is the norm. 

Shooting and editing video is a bit like composing polyphonic music; 
another thing most people don't do.
