I can confirm this behaviour on my system, also Ubuntu Hardy.
Loading a project which was saved with a movie in the viewer causes
Cinelerra to hang. Removing the content in <vwindow> lets you reopen the
file.

"Viewer" window and select "Close source". Save and close.
When you reload the project, it works.
At least, this is what happens on my two computers.
