There is also a utility with a nice GUI called gmerlin_transcode that
can convert it to (among other formats) 8bit packed YUV 4:2:2 (yuv2).
It is based on gavl and gmerlin_avdecode/encode and can be found here:

If I am not mistaken, the new lumiera effort will be based on this lib.
Even though it is based on ffmeg, like mencoder, it can open some
formats that ffmpeg cannot and vice versa.
