1. i have no experience with fedora.
2. packman's cinelerra rpm runs well "most of the time" on suse 10.3.
3. i guess there is also a build for debian or ubuntu
    that runs even better (? i have not tried for some time)

personally, i prefer suse over ubuntu
because the administration is still more unix-like.

otherwise, both are well-tested, stable distros
as long as you don't try the latest version.
