The problem with DV camera:
- they use miniDV tape support,
- you need a firewire card to record your video,
- capturing is made in real time (that means if you recorded 2 hours
video it will take you 2 hours to put it on your computer)
- DV take shots in PAL or NTSC format. These formats are fixed:
- PAL is 720x576 at 25fps interlaced
- NTSC is 720x468 at 30fps interlaced
There are DVD camera too but I don't really know them:
- storage: DVD or miniDVD
- format: MPEG2 (720x576 at 25 fps)
With SD card camcorder or hard disk one:
- you can transfert your video to your computer way faster.
- sizes are often larger (720p, D1, 1080p ...I don't know)
- some of them have an integrated camera with a flash.
- video format: h264 in avi or mov container
But things you will have to look are:
- how much optical zoom (my little samsung vpd371 has a 34x zoom)
- can you add an external microphone (that's optionnal but can help you
in some ways)
- can you take photos with it? (optionnal too)
- want to make night shots?
- want a remote control?
- ...
You said you want to shot while biking:
- I saw aiptek had an external cam called sportycam on some model ==>
see google image. The size of the recorded video may be small though.
- maybe you should consider a format with high framerate to make
slowmotion actions.
- ...
Good luck Schoap
Roland.
