Wow, that's really odd... because my machine has no /dev/video1 device.
However, when entering /dev/video1 into the "Source:" field, then the
Batch line updated to /dev/video0 !!!

After that, it seems like it's trying to read from the device. If I try
a 1 frame capture it pauses, then increments the frame counter in the
"position" field. After a while I get "Frames Behind:" posted, and
occasional error messages that end with "data_size=0"... I'm guessing it
never read anything from the webcam.

It still seems like the character device /dev/video0 is not open to me.
Is this possible?

Also, the webcam light never comes on. I have no idea if that's a
problem or not... is the light just a decoration that most software
turns on, or does it really imply that the device is grabbing/sending
frames? If so, does just an "open()" on the device file start it, or
must some command be written to start it up?

Feel free to direct me to a USB programmer's list if that's where I need
to be...
