There is nothing wrong with DV or any other format. If it works well for you, there's no need to change anything in your practice. As a matter of fact, there's a slight degradation in quality when transcoding, so that's the advantage of working directly with the original format.

But my experience is that adopting a new source of video tends to be a bumpy road. That's why I convert them all to a known-to-work format (MJPEG), and go on from there.
