I have asked this question before, in a different manner. I have searched the
web, read the turorials, but I still cannot figure out how to properly render
video to a video file that contains both audio and video and is a 720X480 NTSC
DVD High Quality Full Screen or Wide Screen compatible .mpg file (depending on
whether the aspect ration is to be 4:3 or 16:9).  When I look at the options,
there seem to be only a few that let me render both the audio and video.
.mov does not seem to be very suitable, as the quality that I have achieved
does not seem to be as good as that of the original file. .AVI dies instantly
if I try to render to that. OGG produces really terrible quality (there are
gaps, skips, breaks in the audio, etc.). DV is OK for 4:3 but 16:9 gets
"squished".

With .MOV and .OGG I have to use ffmpeg to convert the files to .mpg, and the
results are far from ideal.  As I already said, .AVI for Microsoft just causes
Cinelerra to die instantly.

Should I be looking at rendering the Video and Audio streams separately? If so,
what settings should I use (perhaps .mpg video and .mpg audio?). If I do that,
how do I combine the streams into a standard NSTC style .mpg file containing
audio and video compatible with the .mpg used to create DVDs and in perfect
synchronization? When I use ffmpeg to import video from a DVD, I usually use
the option -b 8500 to get good quality video (which results in q=2, which is
the best if I understand correctly).

I want to lose as little quality as is practical when I render the video -- I
want the output quality to be no worse than that of the original input .mpg
video files.

Thanks for any assistance, and special thanks to the developers and to all
those who have helped me in the past.

Murray
