This has presumably been enabled by a chipset change on the DSL frontend - you might want to keep on buying vanilla 877 for assured compatibility. I know it's not the same thing, but I had an nightmare with DSLAM compatibility (*) when I started buying 877 in place of 837, and am very wary of going through that again.
