This is used if the box is in "router" mode ("ip routing").

This is used if the box is in "host" mode ("no ip routing", or boot rom,
or Layer2 switch, or such things).
Being able to configure both means "if the box ends up in the *other* mode,
it will still have a useful default gateway". No harm done.
