it comes to what does what in it.
That's a very nice document. :-) (Hadn't seen it before.)

However, it doesn't really explain what the RSP720 is, as far as I can
see. This link explains the features of RSP720, SUP720 and SUP32:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/7600/Hardware/Hardware_Guides/Supervisor_Engine_and_Route_Switch_Processor_Guide/SupE02_external_docbase_0900e4b18075083b_4container_external_docbase_0900e4b1807b6700.html

This phrase from the document puts it well:

"The route switch processor is the newest version of supervisor engine."

The RSP720 is "just" a faster processor, newer (better/more
features/less stable?) MSFC (the "router" part) and a slightly enhanced
Policy Feature Card (PFC3C) compared to the Sup720-3B(XL).

I would just point out the 3C is 'better' than the 3BXL, BUT, I understand TCAM sizes are still bigger in the XL :-), it may be obvious, but some people may still get caught with the full-routes trap.
As recent thread here (and some not so recent ones):

"Note A high-capacity (XL) PFC is also available. The XL version (PFC3BXL or PFC3CXL) provides more memory for more routing table and netflow cache capacity than a PFC. It allows routing and forwarding processes to be offloaded from the supervisor engine or RSP to the PFC, thus increasing the performance of the supervisor engine or RSP. "

may give the wrong impression that a non-XL would in fact work, in cases where it the FIB limit would bite the hand that feed it :-)..

And the RSP720 is prettier. :-)

Regards,
Peter
