In which case the explanation is simple: By default on a Cisco box, the
bridge forwarding database (sho mac addr) timeout is 5 minutes (sho mac
addr aging), while the ARP table (ipNetToMedia) hangs around for four
hours. Devices down more than 5 minutes but less than four hours will
only appear in the ARP table.
