Because on a 6500, commonality with ASR's makes a lot more sense than with the 
Nexii that share use cases and (some) forwarding hardware? At every turn where 
the 6500/7600 divergence might make sense, Cisco handles it like a drunk driver 
on the phone... 

Even if they refuse to make the intuituve move to NX-OS, this late in the 
product lifecycle I don't see why they wouldn't just stubbornly cling to  
monolithic.
