It may sound trite, but the documentation on cisco.com - and there's a lot of 
it - is going to be the best source of information on XR, along with your Cisco 
account team.  Cisco also offers various training courses on IOS-XR.

It isn't an 'upgrade', per se - it's a completely different operating system.  
We can't 'upgrade' from IOS to IOS-XR - instead, we completely replace the IOS 
operating system with the totally unrelated IOS-XR operating system, after 
ensuring that all linecards/interfaces/features/etc. are supported under XR.
