Thanks for the link Nathan. I was meaning that the new member added had a 
different IOS version. This would cause the new member to go into provisioning 
mode, I think.
Would I then be able to copy the IOS from the flash of a member switch to the 
flash  of the newly added member?

  Once the switch is fully compatible with the stack and joined, you should be 
able to copy the image over, but I feel this likely does not meet your need.
