Where beside the Region / DP can you set the codec for a phone / ExtMob
user?

I have the region / DP setup for G711 but the user is suing G729.

CIPC can force G729 at the device level. Also, if a transcoder or MTP is being
invoked, it's region relationship to the 2 devices also comes into play.

Regions really only set the max allowed bandwidth per call rather than the
codec itself. The 8.X and later interfaces do a little better job at explaining
this.

In CIPC it's the checkmark under Audio > Optimize for Low Bandwidth (it really
means use G.729)

Since G729 is less than 80k in regions it can be used. Also check any dial
peers.

Is this phone-to-phone or phone-to-gateway, etc?

just wondering if anyone has any comments on the difference between Cisco UC
Virtualization Foundation vs VMWare vSphere ? it says that one of these is
required. i'm looking at a couple of C series installations.

Is Foundations "free"? Will it give me everything I need to manage these VMs?

Thoughts?

Foundation is not free but is cheaper than standard
Details here (scroll down just a wee bit):
http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_VMware_Requirements#Supported_Editions_and_Features_of_VMware_vSphere_ESXi.2C_VMware_vCenter_and_VMware_vSphere_Client

I use it on my installs but it does have RAM limitations, even though VMWare
has dumped those, this is a Cisco OEM Version and the RAM limit still exists as
of now.

Thanks Matthew. I just found the article after I hit send. I noticed the memory
limitations.

Apparently VMware was getting a few complaints from their customers so as of
vSphere 5.1 there are no longer any memory limitations. The docwiki shows
support for up to 5.0 (and 5.0 updates) only so it will be interesting to see
how this will affect the supported apps.

I'll probably go with a full VMware license for now and if we can save money
later, great.

Now to see which version of VMware to pick.
