I know that it is not supported but has anyone managed to get a phone into
callmanager 8.X ?
I have tried 3rd party SIP basic and advanced and it does not work.

How do I put 12 lines on a 6961? I'm not clear what this error means?

I'm in the Bulk Admin > Phone Templates > SIP 6961 and trying to make a 12 line
phone.

Nevermind. I was looking at a 6945 not a 6961.

Yes, you'll need a CUBE license, see link

I don't see a reason to populate ASCII XXXXXX in a new CallManager 9.x
(3905,89xx, 69xx, 7945/65 and newer)

Are there any Cisco phones/devices that need ASCII because they don't support
Internationalization (sp?).

Display - This field supports internationalization. If your phone does not
support internationalization, the system uses the text that displays in the
Label ASCII field.

In the case of the Call Display values, the ASCII one is what will get sent out
your ISDN gateways. ISDN does not support internationalized caller names, I
assume. (Despite the web UI's claim, in 8.6 at least, that these fields are for
"Internal Caller ID" that is actually a total lie, there is nothing internal
about it.) Putting different text for the non-ASCII and the ASCII makes for a
handy way to have specific names displayed to internal callees, and generic
business name displayed to external callees. Of course, if you live in a
country where the PSTN ignores the name you send out your ISDN trunk, such as
the U.S., then it doesn't matter.

For the line text label, it does seem completely useless to have the option of
an ASCII value since it's not as if the model of phone will dynamically change
to a model that only supports ASCII.

Nick,

Can you check the output of 'show tech notify" on that sub and see if "ccmdb"
was in the list?

Keep an eye on it and if you see it missing open a TAC SR and email me the
number ASAP.

Thanks,

You need them.

Things like call pickup notification use the ASCII alertingname.

Also a neat feature is when the locales are different then it automatically
shows the ASCII to the other phone.

Display - This field supports internationalization. If your phone does not
support internationalization, the system uses the text that displays in the

DLUs are the 'old' way of doing things, they moved to user based licensing
beginning with new installs of v7.1(5). What made things a bit confusing was
that they still used DLUs, but sold you user based licensing. I believe that
with version 9, there are no DLUs at all, but I could be wrong.

What you have below are the licenses (LIC-CUCM-USR-A), support (CON-ESW) to
give you minor upgrades, and the software subscription (UCSS-UCM) to give you
major upgrades.

Hope that helps. Others will help as well if I've got things wrong.

As of 8.5 Alacarte licensing is no more, when you upgraded from 7.x to 8.5
you were converted to UCL licensing (unless you migrated to CUWL), which is
the new AlaCarte. In order to keep maintenance on your cluster all of those
SKUs are needed.

if you order UCSS, you must have ESW.

you can order ESW without UCSS.

i think you are only required to purchase ESW or UCSS if you are already in a
contract. they want to make sure your numbers match up. if you don't have
either ESW or UCSS on your install, then, no, i don't think you are required to
order them.

your account team can help more though.

I have a VGW running MGCP and everyone has suggested that calls into / out
of are soft on the PSTN side of the call.

Currently all VGW's are set to:

input Gain: -2
Output Attenuation : 3

How would I adjust this to make the PSTN side of the call louder? Without
causing echo =)

you'll still see DLUs in v8.x, but you can't order them. it was/is very
confusing.

the user count tool has an enhanced license at 6 DLUs and an advanced user at 9
DLUs.

i think the names have changed though since the tool was released.

Mike,

I've been tempted to use this for the exact reason you say. However, I've been
hesitant to use something for a purpose it was not intended for. Last thing I
want is to have to remove a feature because it's been changed or removed, etc.

Too bad we just can't have a field that says, "external" callerID or something
like that, either on the phones themselves or the gateways.

In the case of the Call Display values, the ASCII one is what will get sent out
your ISDN gateways. ISDN does not support internationalized caller names, I
assume. (Despite the web UI?s claim, in 8.6 at least, that these fields are for
?Internal Caller ID? that is actually a total lie, there is nothing internal
about it.) Putting different text for the non-ASCII and the ASCII makes for a
handy way to have specific names displayed to internal callees, and generic
business name displayed to external callees. Of course, if you live in a
country where the PSTN ignores the name you send out your ISDN trunk, such as
the U.S., then it doesn?t matter.

For the line text label, it does seem completely useless to have the option of
an ASCII value since it?s not as if the model of phone will dynamically change
to a model that only supports ASCII.

I don?t see a reason to populate ASCII XXXXXX in a new CallManager 9.x
(3905,89xx, 69xx, 7945/65 and newer)

Are there any Cisco phones/devices that need ASCII because they don?t support
Internationalization (sp?).

Display - This field supports internationalization. If your phone does not
support internationalization, the system uses the text that displays in the
Label ASCII field.

ASCII Display ?

You still use DLU in 8.6 but buying PAKs of just DLUs is no more, you need
to purchase UCL or CUWL (which gives you a certain amount of DLUs)... once
you are on 8.5 moving forward you are offically off old school AllaCarte.
(9.x definitely does not have DLUs)

Subject: [cisco-voip] CDR references

A new CDR vender is contacting us, they are called "CDR-Data", I have never
heard of them. Has anyone used this product? We use ISI-Infortel Select
currently for our CDR collection, its a good solution. I know that there are
some other Telemanagement solutions out there. It seems that the boss wants to
verify that we have a good solution and wants compare to other products on the
market.

I have actually looked at the Splunk product with their add-on CDR product,
looks promising but they don't have the tenant billing yet.

A few solutions would greatly appreciated.

I have looked into: Metopolis - OfficeWatch
CDR-Express
