I usually use a different utility, the good ole' 'pmwho' available at
ftp://ftp.livingston.com/pub/le/contrib/pmwho .  You have to modify a
couple things in the C code (pmwho is a shar archive), but it works
beautifully to execute commands via telnet and simply pipe stdout to
your shell.
