no calculator. here is how I remembered 2^n-2
for class c
2 6 14 30 62
62 30 14 6 2
one is backwards, one is forwards, top is # of subnets bottom is number
of hosts
class B is the same
just in powers of 2 to 16384(-2) for the subnets and the reverse 16384
to 2 for the hosts
if you know powers of two, use the finger method to count the bits.
