First things first... IOS is ver 10.3 - you aren't trying to save the config
with a "copy run start" are you? If so, try "write mem", that should do it.
Next, if it is true that you are saving the config with "wr mem" and
reloading only to find your changes no present, check 2 things:
1. Do you see the "Building configuration" message, followed by "OK" when
you issue the write command (in other words, no error message)?
2. If yes to number 1, What is your config register set to?
Bad NVRAM would probably generate and error during the write, and wrong
config register would be fixed by setting it back to 0x2102.
It seems clear from the original post that the issue was with the config,
not the IOS image. Not realizing immediately from this information that we
are dealing with NVRAM and not FLASH points to the paper cert thing, if you
ask me. Or at least to an attention to detail thing, which will certainly
catch you up in the lab... Nothing personal, just an observation.
