Mike, DMA channels are indeed the I/O's ports I refered to, but I couldn't remember what they were called (each time I learn something new , something old falls out the other end).
I came across this about three years ago while setting up a multicast network and experiencing throughput problems, IOS was 112-13_P(1). It looks like Cisco have changed the allocation method, what IOS are you running? RB.
