Jim,

It really depends on what kind of antenna and what's in between (you'll need
to calculate your fresnel zone). If you have a clear line of site, you
should be fine with a good antenna. If you have some trees or whatnot, you
might need a 1W amp. Ive been doing a lot of research on wireless stuff and
Ive been playing with the Lucent AP1000s. I havent done much with the Cisco
stuff because of the cost difference. The Lucent stuff is much cheaper and
seems to do the same thing (it's also REALLY easy to configure). For your
point-to-point link, a couple of AP500s at each building should do the
trick. Dont go cheap on the antenna or the wire (use LMR600 if you can). A
couple of parabolics will give you a nice DB gain as well. Ive been talking
to a guy that's gone 30+ miles with a point-to-point link on 2.4Ghz (fyi).
When you start going that kind of distance, the curvature of the earth also
comes into play.

Let me know if you have any q's or want to know more about Lucent wireless
stuff off-list.

thanks,
