If the customer is rich and has $$ to burn, by all means go get some more gig blades, gbics and run fiber. Otherwise, EtherChannel is still the way to go, and cheapest. Tell the tech/manager who wrote the no VLAN policy that it doesn't apply to EtherChannel.
