Hello group,
I have set up an access server using a cisco 3620 (1 E1 interface and 1 FastEhternet) and IOS version: 12.1 (5) T10. The E1 interface will provide both ISDN and PSTN connections, the FastEthernet is for the LAN connection. I would like to activate MPPC compression with clients using NT (service Pack 6a) and PCMCIA modems. Cisco recommands that we use MPPC compression with Win 95 and NT clients. When ever I watch the output of the debug ppp negotiation command during the connection phase between the client and the Access server, I think the connections goes fine. Here is the output of the debug ppp negotiation command: Mar 1 06:01:02.042 GMT+01: As22 CCP: O CONFREQ [Listen] id 1 len 10 *Mar 1 06:01:02.042 GMT+01: As22 CCP: MS-PPC supported bits 0x00000001 (0x120600000001) *Mar 1 06:01:02.182 GMT+01: As22 CCP: I CONFREQ [REQsent] id 3 len 10 *Mar 1 06:01:02.182 GMT+01: As22 CCP: MS-PPC supported bits 0x00000001 (0x120600000001) *Mar 1 06:01:02.182 GMT+01: As22 CCP: O CONFACK [REQsent] id 3 len 10 *Mar 1 06:01:02.182 GMT+01: As22 CCP: MS-PPC supported bits 0x00000001 (0x120600000001) *Mar 1 06:01:02.186 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: I CONFREQ [REQsent] id 4 len 40 *Mar 1 06:01:02.186 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: CompressType VJ 15 slots CompressSlotID (0x0206002D0F01) *Mar 1 06:01:02.186 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: Address 0.0.0.0 (0x030600000000) *Mar 1 06:01:02.186 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: PrimaryDNS 0.0.0.0 (0x810600000000) *Mar 1 06:01:02.186 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: PrimaryWINS 0.0.0.0 (0x820600000000) *Mar 1 06:01:02.186 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: SecondaryDNS 0.0.0.0 (0x830600000000) *Mar 1 06:01:02.186 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: SecondaryWINS 0.0.0.0 (0x840600000000) *Mar 1 06:01:02.190 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: O CONFREJ [REQsent] id 4 len 34 *Mar 1 06:01:02.190 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: CompressType VJ 15 slots CompressSlotID (0x0206002D0F01) *Mar 1 06:01:02.190 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: PrimaryDNS 0.0.0.0 (0x810600000000) *Mar 1 06:01:02.190 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: PrimaryWINS 0.0.0.0 (0x820600000000) *Mar 1 06:01:02.190 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: SecondaryDNS 0.0.0.0 (0x830600000000) *Mar 1 06:01:02.190 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: SecondaryWINS 0.0.0.0 (0x840600000000) *Mar 1 06:01:02.198 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: I CONFACK [REQsent] id 1 len 10 *Mar 1 06:01:02.198 GMT+01: As22 IPCP: Address 10.127.21.1 (0x03060A7F1501) *Mar 1 06:01:02.210 GMT+01: As22 CCP: I CONFACK [ACKsent] id 1 len 10 *Mar 1 06:01:02.210 GMT+01: As22 CCP: MS-PPC supported bits 0x00000001 (0x120600000001) *Mar 1 06:01:02.210 GMT+01: As22 CCP: State is Open But I when I try to ping a host on the remote network the first ping passes through and the rest of the icmp packets don't. To solve this I desactivate the compression on both sides, and the ping goes through. With the above and with output of the "debug ppp negociation" command, I can conclude that the compression negotiation does works well, but the client and the Access server can't exchange informantion. Can somebody tell me if compression negotiation phase is correct or maybe there is a bug reference with the configuration of compression with mppc. Any information is welcome. Thank you all.
