I believe the 1000 series can do 12.1, but nothing beyond that.  But still,
I would say that even the 2500 is rapidly approaching its last legs.  If you
just need a lab for the (very) near future, then they're OK.  But if you
actually want something that will remain useful for awhile, you should
already be thinking of (at least) 2600's.  I know, I know, $$$.  But, that's
your trade-off.
