as Howard likes to say, it's rocket science, not BGP meaning that BGP can be difficult at first. Along with the usual recommendations of the Cisco Press BGP book by Halabi, you might want to take a look through BGP4 by John W. Stewart III. And maybe the RFC. Only don't get bogged down in the programmers' details. Just the overview.
