I hate to quote other's without permission but here are some comments from
Mr. Chuck L. on what he found out previously.
Begin Quote:
"The Cisco Account Team that supports my employer gave a pretty good
engineering oriented presentation to us today. Here are some of the CCIE Lab
related points made:
1) for the 3550 switch, BGP will appear in the next IOS release, due out in
August. Cisco did not say so, but I am guessing that this will be plenty of
time for a Lab scenario to be put together and tested where BGP on the 3550
L3 switch will be part of the scenario. Recall that Lab takers will be
accountable for all L3 possibilities on the 3550 switch after November 4,
2002.
2) the BGP implementation on the 3550 L3 will not be "complete" The
presenter was unable to speak to specifics, but I have a question in to
Cisco, and the Account team has promised an answer detailing the differences
between the switch BGP and a router BGP.
3) I asked specifically and was told specifically that IS-IS is not planned
on either the 3550 or the 4006 L3. I was a bit surprised to hear this
because of the recent resurgence in the popularity of IS-IS.
4) Not that it matters, but there are no plans for L3 IPX either. I
certainly can find no reference to IPX in the command references and config
guides for the 3550 switches as found on CCO.
I am still hunting down a definitive word about the number of 3550's that
will be in each Lab pod. Some folks have told me there will be two, with all
that implies. However, those at Cisco whom I have asked have not said
anything so far."
End Quote
Apologies in advance to Mr. CL should it be needed. ;-)
I'll be loading this baby up in the morning when I fire up the rack.
Just doing a little light reading on the 3550 EMI, about 10 pounds worth of
light reading! That's what I figure the weight of the 3550 command guide and
config guide combined is. For those out there who are extensive note takers,
use highlighters and are scribblers (like me) you might want to get these
books from Cisco. If you've got yourself covered with a smartnet you can
probably get them for free.
