Without reading it, going on memory - it is saying the redistribute only the routes specified or required (maybe will affect IBGP later etc), deny all else. One of the things that those labs require is to use a route-map or a distribute list out/in (depending on the igp)for redistribution. It's up to you which one you prefer.
Under Rip (routes u are receiving from ospf) redistribute ospf x (metric) route-map test route-map test permit 10 match ip address 1 access-list 1 permit x.x.x.x x.x.x.x (prefix you want to redis into rip etc) I hope you were looking for something elementary.
