ctrl ^ x is how you leave a session (such as telnet) with another device. that is all you need to know about it. it may get you out of a ping as well but i don't think of that as anything you would need to know for an exam. just remember that it gets you out of a session, but leaves the session connected. hit enter to rejoin the last session, and disconnect to end it.
