I have a network with approximately 20 VLANs, running EIGRP as my routing protocol. One of my VLANs, VLAN12, runs RIP for connectivity to another organization. The others do not need to receive RIP updates. So, the solution I came up with is to make the other 19 VLANs passive interfaces so that RIP updates are not sent out interfaces that do not have any RIP routers. I also have 3 VLANs where I only need a static route, so I have added those as passive interfaces for EIGRP too. My question is: is this the most efficient way to do it? I imagine that in a very large network, adding every single interface as a passive interface would get old rather quickly. Any suggestions?
