Early last year I tried, and in response I got a call from some one in the
local government, I don't remember who it was. By late last year our road
was completed. I do not know if there was a connection or not, but the fact
that I got a call in response to my complaint I made on the internet shows
that it is not a gimmick. It is sad that we have all been driven to mistrust
any thing that the government might want to do positively- including setting
up BATFs and ABIDEs. The answer Mathew is that we must fight on and try and
work these bodies to deliver for what they have been set up for. I myself
have little respect for the politicians and bureaucrats as a class, but
there are those among them who are a little different from the flock. We do
not need experts to run the day to day affairs, we need people with common
sense and commitment. By the way, who amongst us is an expert in any field
other than what we had been trained for? Yet we give our views, all of which
are not junk. It is because we have gained by experience and association. By
the way, remember that there was a time when we thought and believed that an
Armoured Division should be commanded only by an armoured corps officer? The
whole concept got changed, and today our career course has become so
inclusive that an officer from any arm or service can operate effectively in
a situation that he may not have been a specialist in , barring EME perhaps.

Mistrust all the way will only beget mistrust and possibly frustration. So
try again this route, may be this time you might not find it a gimmick. Who
knows?
