News for Social activists concerned with civic issues
I had sent a mail earlier informing that we intend to jointly ( BBMP, Police
Law and order/Traffic ) conduct a drive to clear the footpath from hawkers . As
a pilot, we selected 80ft Road in R.T.Nagar area.
I am glad to inform that ACP and Inspector ( Traffic ) took us around the area
on 16th Jan ( we proposed the drive on 19th Jan) and warned the hawkers, petty
vendors to clear within 24 hours lest the materials will be confiscated . In
the process ACP gave a good clue to solve this problem I e BBMP Engineers are
supposed to clear the foot path as they make and maintain footpaths. In order
to enforce this they can write to Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force of BBMP,
who come with vehicle to confiscate the stuff on the footpath.
Those who are unaware of availability of this system ( I did not know and was
contacting Police -Traffic and Law and order) ) may take this route as misuse
of footpath is rampant everywhere. Let us not create a Dadar of Mumbai or
Shivaji nagar and City market of Bangalore where footpaths are not available
for pedestrians.
