Sounds like your include_path in the php.ini is incorrect.  Usually it
allows the directory one is operating from to be included also so it
needs to have a period "." in it to indicate that. To include that
plus the path you already have (according to the error message) It
should be something like:

include_path = ".:/usr/local/canopy/include/php:/usr/share/pear"

This could also be affected if safe_mode is turned on in the php.ini.
