Yes, renaissance consort parts for cittern are usually pretty disappointing - block chords with very simple strumming patterns, nothing like baroque guitar alfabeto. I've found the French tuning even more useful for this kind of part, though - it's not a big difference but my old instrument seemed to ring more.
At that Portuguese guitar conference I got the change to play with Francisco Garcia Ruiz - he played the Demarzi continuo on his Renaissance cittern, reading from the original.
