Hi Martin,

I'm not an expert on Corsican cittern (yet), but I do know one or two
things. For one thing, it's huge - at least the one Michele Raffaelli
was playing at the conference Rob mentioned was huge - with a rather
strange tuning: g' d' g gG d'd c'c bflatBflat aA . I'm not certain
Michele's was tuned so high, but those are the intervals (seems to me
it was more like d' on top). There are several types of cittern in
Corsica, and a quick search will turn up several sites and makers.

I hung out quite a bit with Michele at the conference but had to leave
before he gave his presentation, so I don't know what he said and why
James Tyler would find problems with it, plus I don't read French so
can't comment on his take of the history. I do know that, however the
instrument appeared on the island, it is held in esteem as an important
"native" instrument.
