Actually, I think the ringing on is great and use it whenever it fits 
the music.  I think it's one of the great features of the instrument, 
and several of the tutors mention it - Ann Ford's comes to mind.  She 
does say not to overuse it, though it is clearly one of the things she 
finds attractive about the sound.
