I don't either, but what about diatonic or semi-diatonic fretting? 
That's why I suggested those composers  - I thought you were playing 
earlier music because you have a diatonic instrument. I had the feeling 
that diatonic fretting had more or less gone out of use by then, but I 
can't find any reference to it in the literature that I have.  Andrew - 
do you know more about this?  Or Peter F?

Playford's publications are full of older music, too, aren't they? As 
Frank suggests, older instruments were around, and so were older 
tablatures.

If I had to do the same gig with the same instrument you have, I'd play 
a few chestnuts with variations and set a few hymns and corrants.  I'll 
be interested to hear what Dr. Grijp says.
