It is old hat, David. The link to your image doesn't work for me, but I
think it would show the same image which has been on my website for many
years: http://www.musicintime.co.uk/varioushistories.htm and Peter Forrester
wrote an article about it for Lute News (which edition, Peter?). Or have you
found something else, David?

I can't comment on the cittern - hopefully Peter can. But for me the
interest is the instrument to the right of the cittern player - a harmonium.
The bell-end flute is of interest too. I've tried for years to get this
consort recreated. I even tried to get Historic Scotland, or whoever it is
that owns the castle, to sponsor a recording - but to no avail.

Apparently there are similar ceilings elsewhere in Europe, so it doesn't
automatically mean it is a painting of an actual consort in Aberdeenshire.
But it must be the most beautifully preserved painting.

Maybe you should do a similar painting on your own bedroom ceiling, David?
It would make a change from the mirror!
