Rob,

Wouldn't the portable keyboard thingy be a regal, rather than a harmonium?

The regal was a sort of organ portative, but with short reed pipes hidden in
the body, rather than the more familiar, visible, flute pipes. My dictionary
of music says that the regal was in use "from the late Middle Ages to the 18th
century".
I've seen and heard one in the museum of the School of Music in Berlin. It
sounds .. well ... sort of ... like a harmonium ;-)

Cheers,
John D.
