Hello Werner,

Thank you for the solution, and I volunteer myself for the task. For
correspondence (questions if I get stuck) should I use this thread,
private mail, or another list?

Current .fdx files on my system:

$ locate *.fdx
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/GB/c10gbsn.fdx
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/GB/c10gkai.fdx
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/JIS/c42goth.fdx <- translateto c70goth.fdx
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/JIS/c42maru.fdx <- translate to c70maru.fdx
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/JIS/c52min.fdx <- "JIS2dnp"
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/JIS/c42min.fdx <- translate to c70min.fdx
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/JIS/c52maru.fdx <- "JIS2dnp"
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/UTF8/c70bkai.fdx
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/UTF8/c70gbsn.fdx
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/UTF8/c70bsmi.fdx
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/UTF8/c70gkai.fdx
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/Bg5/c00bkai.fdx
/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/Bg5/c00bsmi.fdx

Comments:

1. C42 corresponds to JIS X 0208 (levels 1 and 2 kanji), DNP font
   encoding, referred to as "JIS" in TUGBoat article on CJK.

2. C50 corresponds to JIS X 0212 (level 3 kanji), DNP font encoding,
   referred to as "JIS2" in TUGBoat article on CJK.

Question:

Both the C42 and C50 would have to be translated to C70 right?
