this map file is just a map, and dvipdfm(x) dont need it if the TFM file and Type1 Font file has the same prefix. i use dvipdfmx 20071115, the latest snapshot.
this map have this format: TFM <PFB(Type1 File) actually, i put this map in TEXMF/fonts/map/dvips/, i know it is just needed by dvips. for dvips, if you dont provide a font map, dvips dont know how to find pfb. if you dont provide the second column, and use ghostscript's ps2pdf to convert ps to pdf. when you use a pdf reader, kpdf, xpdf, or poppler's pdffonts, even AdobeReader, you will find the fontname is ******+****.pfb, just like my KNPBGU+hanmn6e.pfb. of course, we dont like this, we prefer it is shown as PS Font Name. so we provide map file like this: `TFM File' `PS Font Name' <`Type1 Font File' and this is just for dvips or pdflatex, not for dvipdfmx! for me, i dont like hanmn6e, so i use HanNom-6e and HanNomO-6e for Oblique fonts. i generate it like this. 1. generate file like this: HanNom-%s.pfb and HanNomO-%s.pfb(with skew 9.4) 2. rename HanNom-%s.pfb/tfm to hanmn%s.pfb/tfm, and HanNomO-%s.pfb/tfm to hanmo%s.pfb/tfm, the enc and afm is useless for me, as i combine CJK-EXT-A/B to Font, but it cant generate a TrueType or OpenType(may, but i didnt have a try). i dont use dvips, so i dont write a map file. why? In my opinion, dvips and pdf(la)tex is part of LaTeX, just like latex. But latex just need tfm to product dvi. After that, all the work of LaTeX ends. DVIPDFMx, not a part of TeX, is just a software to geneate pdf from dvi. dvips and pdf(la)tex is part of TeXLive, so they need a map. But you can write a email to TUG, suggest them to write TeX like dvipdfmx, so we dont need to provide a map. and in the end, it's not business of CJK, CJK is just a macro, a super macro to deal with CJK in LaTeX. You should ask your questions on LaTeX-Mail-List, not on CJK-Mail-List. i hate to use Windows' TTF font, just like simsun, simhei and so on. i phoned ZhongYi, they said i have no right to use their font in my GNU/Linux. so i dont know how to use these fonts in dvipdfmx, maybe you can get it. If you want to know how to use OpenType font in LaTeX + CJK, we can discuss them. Best regards. p.s. it's hard for me to write in english. if you speak chinese, please tell me so i can write in chinese. 2007/12/8, Hongyi Zhao <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: > > > really i dont know what you said. > > if you want to know more, just read the source file of CJK macro. > > I want to know things like this: e.g., in the file t1-gbksong.map, > > we have lines like this: > gbksong01 gbksong01 <gbksong01.pfb > > here, the first colume of the the file is the subfonts stemname, the > second colume is the ps fontname, and the third is the corresponding > pfb file's name, I want to know, why must I write this file like this, > what's the mechanism of CJK to invoke the gbksong01.pfb by this map > file, would you like give me a detailed secription? > > As for the ttf-gbksong.map, I also want to know why must I write the > map file like that and the mechanism of CJK to invoke the > corresponding ttf font file. > > Thanks in advance > > Hongyi >
